Clean Deadlift - Olympic Weightlifting Guide

Travis Steffen: This is Travis Steffen for workoutbox.com, bringing you an Olympic movement called the clean deadlift. The clean deadlift is a skill transfer exercise for the full clean, which is an Olympic movement. Notice that my hands are about shoulder-width apart and my feet are hip-width apart, with my toes slightly pointed outward. My back is stationary in a low direct position and the bar is staying close to my shins and then staying close to my thighs the entire time.

From a different angle, you can see how straight my back is the entire time and how I am not even really using my arms at all, I am only using my lower body, the extension of my knees, ankles, and hips. The snatch deadlift is the same as the clean deadlift, only with a skill transfer exercise for the snatch. Snatch is an Olympic movement in which my hands are a lot wider. Notice that I am using weightlifting straps for this particular movement so my grip does not fail and I can perform the movement effectively without having to worry about my grip strength.
