Clean Water: the Ripple Effect

Sherri Dmyterko: From little drops come big ripples. A new contest is challenging Canadians to share their ideas for keeping our water clean and pure.

Roxanne Gregory: Every little drop, every little action, can create a big ripple to help our water stay clean.

Sherri Dmyterko: Roxanne Gregory is with Henkel Consumer Goods Canada Inc., and says that clean water is a passionate subject for nearly all Canadians.

Roxanne Gregory: In a recent Angus Reid Strategies survey, 96% of Canadians told us they felt it's important that we teach our children, ways to protect our water system. And 97% said that parents should set an example for their children. That's why we want Canadians to tell us what they can do at home to keep our water clean. Things like being mindful of what we're putting down the drain, like using a laundry detergent that is phosphate free, and biodegradable, so that it's gentler on our lakes and rivers.

Sherri Dmyterko: The Little Drops, Big Ripples contest runs until May 22, with two grand prizes; one for families and one for teachers and their classes.

Roxanne Gregory: A donation will be made for every entry received to the Clean Water project, a Free The Children program that supports the construction of wells, clean water and sanitation systems in developing communities around the world. One lucky grand prize winning class will win a presentation by Marc or Craig Kielburger, the two Canadian brothers that founded the Free The Children Charity and the Me to We social enterprise, plus there are monthly prizes for teachers.

Sherri Dmyterko: The family grand prize includes a high-efficiency front-loading washer, and natural gas dryer, as well as a year's supply of the new Purex Natural Elements HE formula laundry detergent.
