Cleft Palate Surgery

Interviewer: So you went to [Muffled] because you saw some great resolves from terrible situations and something woke up in your head is that correct? Interviewee: Right it is a probably I put it that you just want something than dream, something that I want to learn and along side that I am really have no interest in traveling to third world countries. Whatever reason I… Interviewer: So you actually went to some of the poor countries and get involved in some reputations? Is there a group that is involved there? Interviewee: So I have been working with two. I work with one group in particular; group of [Muffled] children and I have been on probably over 40 missions 45 missions. Interviewer: Healing the children.org is that? Interviewee: Healing children.org and I have been one of their medical directors for the years and I run teams, I have lost count but I have been probably over40 45 missions two to three years presently I go to Columbia once a year to a city to celebrate our 15th consecutive year. And we did over a 180 cases in that last June and recently started the program in Ukraine. Interviewer: Why Ukraine? Interviewee: One of my friends got involved with the lifeline charity organization and apparently they were interested in data and I requested to sent some teams to Ukraine they need a surgeon so I will be going to Ukraine once a year and doing surgery and teaching. That has been a good program, it is not nearly as large as the program in Columbia but it works for me. I travel recent I have been probably almost every country in South America and Central America at this point doing surgery and I ran two teams to understand one in Brooklyn. So my interest there are really very strong cleft lip and cleft palette and some you know when I first started out I was learning. Now my role as a senior surgeon you know I teach a lot of young people how to do things. If you think about it there is probably 15 to 20 surgical procedures associated with kids going to cleft lips and clip palette. Now obviously not a rigidity to all 20 but you need to know that 15 to 20 different surgical procedures just to take the kid from start to finish. And the combination of running two teams in traveling to third world country is really giving me a great opportunity. Number I have got to treat a lot of kids, number two I got to work with really with some of the world’s best surgeons and each one of them show me a little bit something that is old and [Muffled] that probably a much better surgeon. So that coupled with the work we do locally it is really kind a neat. I anticipate that I always will be going to third world countries until my health is no longer an issue but I go like I said tow three times a year and that is what I do is cleft lip and cleft palette surgery and other facial performance.
