Is your burger so good you want another one just like it? And I mean, just like it. In fact, it is an exact replica, a cloned burger. Well, you might end up eating one and not even knowing. In January 2008, the FDA gave a green light to food producers to start selling cloned animals as food. When the USDA came to know this, it quickly stepped in and put a ban on the cloned meat while it examined the impacts that it would have. But they did not ban the animal’s offspring or their milk from being sold. In September, the FDA said, “The offspring of cloned meat might have already went to the food supply.” Thanks FDA! But if the FDA says it is fine, it is probably no big deal right? The center for food safety says, “The available science shows that cloning represents serious food safety risks.” And announced 20 food producers including Kraft, General Mills and Nestle. Agree with them and we will not buy cloned programs. The ban on products from the first generation cloned animals still stands today. And, we are hoping that the new FDA will be able to keep the clones out of our bodies. Until then, be on the lookout for cloned meat at a supermarket near you. Oh yes, you cannot. It is not labeled.
