This is Penny. She is an eight-year-old hearty color American Cocker Spaniel. She is an International and American Champion and has some field training. She is a good girl.
Dogs that are bred for flashing and retrieving small birds in low cover so there are lot of people using for quail. They can be used for pheasants. A dog this size can easily pick up and easily retrieve a pheasant. I know a number of people that work with both a Cocker and a larger Retriever for flashing and retrieving and they were bred to behind with on foot. They are sturdy little dog, the standard is for them to be a 14 inches tall for female, 15 for male.
They are not a toy. They are a good-sized dog. Most of the girls would weigh about 18 pounds, the boy’s weigh about 25. This temperament is typical of a Cocker. Our standard says above all, they must have been married so this wagging tail is very, very typical. And they are pretty much a happy dog. They are good family pet, there are obviously a pretty convenient size for houses. They are big enough and sturdy enough for small kids and they fit well in the house. They are moderate energy dog so they can do fine with either moderate energy, moderate exercise in the yard or a short walk. They are pretty healthy, there’s a lot of hair.
Penny is a puppy cat which is how most people keep their dogs once they’re no longer in confirmation. And they do require, they need a haircut every four to six weeks and the more hair you keep them in, the more brushing is going to be required as well.
