Alton Brown: Well here we are in kitchen stadium for the culinary solo debut of my nephew.
Female: Good luck sweetie.
Alton Brown: Starting off by a cutting a cucumber in half and spooning all the seeds. Nice little maneuvers there. Now notice that he’s cutting it into long strips and chopping those strips.
Female: Look at them. There is fit. Where did he hold those fingers like that? I’ve never seen that.
Alton Brown: You’ve never seen because he is doing it correctly.
Okay now his moving on to the granny smith apple which he is peeling, cut in half and pulling out with a lemon blower.
Female: That’s very sharp sweetie.
Alton Brown: No, the lemon blower is not really actually sharp.
Now he is going to Tomatillos. Now you notice that he’s using the moderate maneuver.
Female: Now well charming. I remember that for the police report.
Alton Brown: Okay now he’s got three of those done and noticed there that splitting is missing putting half out on the two a flexible cutting mat and half into the bowl. Okay now he’s taking the stock with the matters we’re getting over to the food processor since the soup is better when its chunky, he’s only going to crosses a half with the food he sliced and diced.
Female: There were processors. Oh no, no he’ll lop off a finger.
Alton Brown: No, he will not. He makes those things so safe and even you could use it. Okay he’s adding to the rest of that so it’s going to add a pound of seedless grapes, a cup of toasted walnuts and a cup of plain yogurt. A cup of white grape juice which I think his lays with the teaspoon a rice wine vinegar, a very common. Five no, no six mint leaves and he’s just going to buzz that up with nine or ten pushes of that pulse button..
Female: Now he better have a pulse at the end of this or you won’t.
Alton Brown: Yeah, whatever. Okay now its going back over and mixing that in to the rest of the chunks. So he’s got a whole range of texture going on there. Wrapping with plastic wrap, glad he didn’t forget that and into there refrigerator for two to three hours chill. A magnificent outing here in kitchen stadium, bravo! Bravo!
Female: Good job sweetie.
Kid: Wow I’ve never had cold soup before.
Female: Oh you have so I make tomato gazpacho every summer.
Alton Brown: Well you can’t kill them so you might as well cook with them, besides if you don’t teach them who will.
Kid: TV shows
Alton Brown: Well that’s a curious thought. Now I imagine there are some quality culinary programs out there but by in large I think cooking should start in the home. Besides cooking with your kid is good clean wholesome fun, who among us could use some more of that.
Kid: Speak for yourself.
Alton Brown: See you next time on good eats.
