Cold Water Classic Tasmania - Highlight Day 2
O’Neill Coldwater Classic
CWC Marrawah, Tasmania
Round of 144 - 24/03/10
Jarrad Howse: Good day I am Jarrad Howse. Here we are at Day two of the O’Neill Cold Water series.
Today the condition settled down a little bit which let us get around to Lighthouse Beach which is a bit more of a top to bottom wave where we saw some pretty unbelievable surfing. We finished Round one and went through to Heat 6 through Round 96. Check it out.
John John Florence from Hawaii, O’Neill Team Rider had an awesome hit today. He had a perfect ten and a 6.1. On his ten he did a big double grab punt first then finished it off with an air reverse, amazing surfing.
John John Florence: It’s so tiring. It was like hitting — I was like—
I don’t really get good waves and a little double up came and I was like, “Oh, I got to do something on this wave.” And then I kind of just like do like a little air and then. And it tangles like I got to do one more thing and do everything.
Yeah, I went in the air and I was a little like, “Yeah, that was good.” But I don’t know. I think I really remember after so like tying to like get back outside.
Jarrad Howse: Cape Town’s Royden Bryson, Cold Water surfer and all around great guy, progressed through today’s heat with Nic Muscroft to make of that of 48.
Royden Bryson: Majority of the places that we traveled to the waves are pretty good, you know yup in this gist and absolutely terrible waves something. Today they might look terrible from the beach but it’s actually pretty good in comparison to some of the waves we surfed. I'm curious so generally, I’m — these are O’Neill Cold Waters but good waves so that’s why we chased him I think.
Jarrad Howse: Easily heat of the day was hit one of the Round of 96 with surfer Jordy Smith, Shaun Cansdell and Joao won with Ben Richardson from Tasmania.
Unbelievable surfing. Jordy Smith has got a to 9.178. He took it out. Shaun Cansdell finished on 12. And unfortunately for Ben, he saw the back door. But unbelievable surfing, great to watch.
Jordy Smith: Probably head and my voice settled out. I already had a really tight chest and this kind of brought the ENT and then drive and just had me feeling to all of it. I just — and I took out a brand new board and pull of a couple of waves. I think I got my two waves but that wasn’t too bad.
Definitely I got really bad sinuses so every time I like push under, I’ll pull up, got deeper and just kind of starts hitting rough ride here.
And yeah, you know, it’s just one of the best things. I’m going to go to the doctor and get some narcotics and help me clear up.
Jarrad Howse: Well that was it for Day two of the O’Neill Coldwater Classic Tasmania. Tomorrow we start with Heat 7 of Round of 96. We’re expecting great conditions so stick around.
