College Early Action - Advantages of Early Admission

Take a really serious look at the advantages of applying early actions! These are the two circumstances under which you should apply early action. Number one, your safety schools, number two, your matching schools—you are not going to apply through your rich schools, you really do not want to be wasting your time doing that, there is too much competition out there. Here are what the advantages are. First of all, it is not binding. You do not have to go to those schools so you can apply early action to many of these schools as you want. Number two, you are going to be notified a lot earlier, usually before the holidays, so you are going to be going through your senior year a lot less stressful than your classmates so you are going to wait until March or April to find out if they have been accepted. Number three, if you are not accepted into the early action program, chances are very good they are going to put you into the record and decision pool where your chances might even be better of getting accepted. The other thing I would do is apply ten days earlier than the school’s actual deadline, so be sure to notify or contact the schools to find out what their early action deadlines are because the schools really like to know that you are interested in going there particularly the smaller schools and that sends a signal to them that you are really interested in going and so that is a positive thing for you to be doing that even in schools that do not even have an early action program. There are two professors at Princeton who did a study, not too long ago, they communicated that applying early is the equivalent of adding an extra hundred points to your SAT score, so it is a real advantage to apply an early action.
