This public school looks and feels like exclusive Ivy League Institution offering a pedigree in higher learning at state tuition costs. Founded in 1693 William and Mary is the second oldest college in the United States behind Harvard and has educated its fair share of our nation’s early leaders such as Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe. Competitive enrolment standards preserve the William and Mary experience. Only about 1500 of 10,000 plus applications are accepted annually and 85% of last year’s freshmen scored above 600 on the verbal and math fact tests. It supports an 11 to 1 student faculty ratio in the beyond books approach to learning where every freshman may join faculty research projects as well as international service trips including work on professional papers, marine expeditions, building homes in Honduras or providing medical and educational assistance in Belize.

So what about campus life, sports, fun? Nothing has been left out. There are 23 division one sports teams as home to the nation’s first Greek society Greek Life thrives here as the cultural and art celebration exploring the lush 1200 acre campus offers a worthy study break hike or canoe ride on Lake Matoaka. Plus students can stroll for a journeying colonial Williamsburg or take three shuttles to area attractions such as Bush Gardens.
