Color Blindness and Vision

Samuel Lopez: Hi, my name is Samuel Lopez. I'm 52 years old, I live in New York City. My question is what does people see when they are colorblind?

Richard Davidson: Samuel, thank you for that question. Your question is what do people see when they are colorblind and people who are color-blind see just fine actually, people can see 20-20 have great vision, they just have trouble distinguishing certain colors and there is different types of color blindness. Some patients have trouble with red, green, some people have trouble with blue and yellow. Red, green is by far the most common, most colorblindness is inherited although there is a small percentage that's acquired but people who are colorblind in generally just have trouble discriminating certain shades of colors meaning the average person who is red, green colorblind may still be able to be see true red and true green but the colors that are in between certain pastels they may have trouble distinguishing. So their role is not completely in black and white they see in color they just have trouble distinguishing certain colors and that's the biggest problem for them, but thanks so much for your question.
