Hey you guys! Carla is doing great, right Carla? You alright? She is hanging in there. What a trooper? She is doing this for all the women out there to experience this. Basically what I have done is it’s just like a pap smear, we put the speculum in. The only thing that we did differently is put a CD gas on the cervix which is vinegar and believe it or not whoever, whatever scientist thought this up, vinegar is taken up by the abnormal cells in the cervix and we are looking at the cervix right now and it will show up white and the great thing about that is so that we can see the abnormal cells, and so great a closer look at them to see maybe how abnormal they are and then we can also take biopsy out of it.
So it’s also not only a diagnosis, but a potential cure, because if we take a biopsy, using an instrument that looks a little scary, right Patty, but it’s basically long because it needs to go up to the vaginal canal and we take a tinie-tiny little snip, just like that and then we remove it with some tweezers and put it into a little specimen jar and send it off to a cytologist and they will look to find out the degree or grade of the abnormality, whether it’s high grade or low grade and that tells us if the patient indeed needs another procedure to completely remove those bad cells or abnormal cells, or if she can just be watched because it's due to inflammation or something like that.
So again this is a diagnosis and a potential cure at the same time. It’s just like a pap smear, just a little bit more invasive. Sometimes you can have bleeding with it. Woman shouldn’t do it on her period, because then any bleeding from the procedure can actually be confused with the period bleeding. She has to refrain from intercourse afterwards, but again this can save lives because cervical cancer used to kill lives, but with the advent of the pap smear and this procedure, we essentially eradicate cervical cancer to some degree.
