Hey guys. This is Master Jake and today’s going to be a very simple video. I’m just going to go over some very common window shortcut key. But surprisingly, there are actually a lot of people out there who don’t know about these or use them on a daily basis.
Now, part of my experience on a computer has been to use lessen list of the mouse in everyday activity. The keyboard is much faster. For one you can type a lot faster that you can move your mouse around and coordinate with things. But anyway, we’re going to go ahead and show you. I’m going to start out in a notepad because a lot of these have to do with text.
So, say you’re typing; I’m just going to type “This is text.” Okay, I just selected it. Now, in order to select text, you can take your mouse and drag over it, you go in Edit Select All, or you can just use the shortcut key Ctrl+A. and Ctrl+A is used in a lot of different things, not just on Windows. It can be used in a software or like firefox says “Ctrl+A.” Most anything with text generally uses Ctrl+A for the select all feature. So, Ctrl+A is select all.
Now, if you wan to copy the text, you can Right Click Copy. You can go to Edit Copy, or you can press Ctrl+C. Ctrl+C is also used in many different products.
Pasting. Right Click Paste or Edit Paste or you can just use the Ctrl+V just like that. All right.
Let’s say you made a mistake, Undo. Well, you could Right Click Undo or you can go to Edit Undo or you can just press Ctrl+Z just like that.
So, so far let’s actually go over cut real quick, Ctrl+X. it is very simple. Type some texts, cut it, paste it, cut it, paste it, cut it, and paste it. It’s really simple to do. Also I want you to select at everything. Of course you can press Backspace and just get rid of it or you can select everything and press the Delete key to get rid of it.
Now, in case you don’t know the difference, Backspace Delete from. The cursor deletes what’s left of the cursor. The Delete key deletes what’s right of the cursor. But, when it’s all selected it doesn’t really matter either way. I don’t delete it all.
All right, so Ctrl+A, is select all. Ctrl+C, is copy. Ctrl+X is cut, Ctrl+Z is undo, Ctrl+V is paste. I use those hundreds of times a day literally because i’ in notepad a lot writing software, web software, PHP, websites, digital studio, writing some C software and stuff, everywhere, I generally use the same key shortcuts.
Now, there’s also a redo in some programs. It’s generally Ctrl+Y. Ctrl+Z is undo and Ctrl+Y is usually redo. So that’s some basic keyboard shortcuts for you there.
Now, this can come in handy especially with files. So if you have a folder and you select a lot of files, just Ctrl+A and you selected all the files. Then you can quick click Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V to take all the files out of the folder and paste them somewhere else. It is very simple.
Now, here is some combination keys that you might need to know. Let’s say you want to select books and resources and text files. Well, you can’t really do that. Let’s say you wanted to select them both and copy where you copy them one at a time, or you could select one, hold down Ctrl. Oops, cancel that. Select one, hold down Ctrl, and select the other. So now we have both text files and books and resources selected. Then continue. Hold down Ctrl, select another, maybe you want to select a couple of those. Now look at that. You have different files everywhere selected. So you just need to be holding down Ctrl when you select multiple files.
Also, if you want to select the arranged of files that are next to each other. Like say from here to here, Books and Resources to tutorials, select one of them, hold down Shift and then click the next one and it’ll select whatever is in between there. So you selected all those folders.
Okay now, here’s a good example of using all of these combined. See, that’s the wrong folder. Exit projects. Now, I have a ton of examples in here that I’ve been needing to get rid of. These are from when I was doing tutorials. All right so, how can I just quickly get rid of these knowing the knowledge that I know, it doesn’t take me anytime at all?
So first of all, I’ll select arrange, click PHP, hold down Shift, and click “word_counter.php” Now I’m going to hold down Ctrl and click “If”, and with controls still held down and helding down Shift, I’ll click “hello_world.php” So now you selected this range and additionally this range. Doing the same thing I’ll hold down Ctrl and click “Blah”. Hold down Shift and Ctrl and click “Databases_2.php”. So now I have selcted all of the files in the folder.
Now I can simply post the delete key, ‘Yes’ and I’ve gotten rid of them all, very simple. So those are just some common key board key shortcuts that you might need to know if you did not and they can really make your life a lot easier.
I will post the list in the video description just incase you didn’t catch all of that. Thanks for watching the video.
