This is the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution MR. It features a turbo charged inline four cylinder that makes 295 horsepower. It also has an all-wheel-drive system and a fancy twin clutch transmission Mitsubishi calls TCSST. Let's see how it does.
At the test track, the Evolution MR manages 60 miles per hour in 5.2 seconds. Thanks to the dual clutch transmissions and fancy launch control system. However on the skid pattern race track is where that Evo really shines. Mitsubishi's brand new super all-wheel-control system helps the Evo MR break the 1G sealing on the skidpad and record a blazingly fast lap time at Reno-Fernley Raceway.
It also makes the Evo a blaster driver and even drift. Possible in an all little drive car you say. Not if it has Evo's surgically precise steering, phenomenal TCSST transmission and torque splitting active yard control system.
We are back on the streets of Los Angeles with Lancer Evolution and the first thing you notice is that what is good on the race track is not necessarily good on the streets. The supportive seats, the tight steering, the very firm suspension, they are great for the race track, but out here tend to get a little tiresome, when especially we go over pot holes, when we are cruising on a free way and you run in some expansion joints.
Now a most of these won't be a problem for the true hardcore fans of the Lancer Evolution. This car is big step up from the Evo 9, but still not really where you would want to be if you are looking for sophistication and refinement. So the Evo did great on the track, it did pretty good on the streets, how will it do against the 135i, we will find out.
