Comparison between Blackberry Storm and iPhone 3G Browsers
Hey guys, Jon Rettinger with Jon4Lakers.com here with an full browser comparison for you of the Blackberry Storm and the iPhone 3G along with some of the different webpages comparing the 3G speeds. Also turn on the Wi-Fi and compare Wi-Fi versus Verizon, EV-DO networks. You really can get a sense of how fast the phone is and what the browser looked like on the device, a little more in-depth than I went into my first comparison video. So I hope you guys enjoy and I will see you in the next one. Bye.
Alright guys so I've got five bars of EV-DO service on the Storm and I've got four bars of 3G service on the iPhone 3G. There should be a very fair comparison as far as browser speeds go. The memory has been cleared out of both phones. Let’s go ahead and get started. I've got CNET.com cued up both on this, let’s go ahead and hit go and you have it there. CNET is a fairly intensive site so it should be relatively fair competition here.
Alright, they’re both off and the iPhone has got some text up there first. Let’s play up a mobile version of CNET and the Storm is still going. It is still running scripts. So you see it pulls up to full version or the mobile version. It pulled to full version so I guess that would be to the Storm’s credit here that it is noticing that the browser is capable of like for website viewing and it is just about done. So the iPhone is sending out a mobile signal and the Storm is sending out a full webpage now. Let’s go ahead and try a new website. Let’s try Jon4Lakers.com.
We’ll open that up on each and type it in here on the Storm. The keyword will pop up so there it is. Here it is here, let’s go ahead and give them both a shot they’re both off and they should pull off a full website version of each. It appears that the Storm has levied out early leave here. It looks like it’s three quarters of the way down. Now it looks like the iPhone is pointing up to text. So go ahead and let you guys see how that works.
It looks like the iPhone is almost done. Alright, the iPhone just finished up and the Storm is still loading and this page is both web-friendly and mobile-friendly so they both have equal shot here to load it pretty equally. Alright, so just finished up and it appears that the iPhone was quite faster. Let’s try one more site for comparison. Let’s try EnGadget. We’ll load that up here on the Storm. So we are set there. Let’s try and load it up here. We’ve got it keyed up in bookmarks and let’s go ahead and get started and we’re off on both of them.
So now a lot of people were concerned the browser. So it looks like the Storm pull up the mobile version of EnGadget and did it quite quickly whereas the iPhone is loading the full HTML version just as you would see on the main white page. So it looks like your browsing experience is definitely going to vary by phone and sometimes the popular mobile version, sometimes you won’t so it is really going to depend on what your preference I supposed for the devices. They both do seem relatively quick so the iPhone 3G has Wi-Fi, the Blackberry Storm does not and relies solely on Verizon EV-DO network.
So let me show you guys a comparison of what you're losing with Wi-Fi. I'm going to turn Wi-Fi on the iPhone 3G on. I’ll do all this in real time for you and it loads up a site that will load equally on both. Turn the Wi-Fi on. So now we are connected to my Wi-Fi network. Let’s go ahead and try loading a site that loaded equally on both. We’ll try Jon4Lakers again and we’ll see what the comparison tests are. It is a pretty simple site. So we got it right there and we got it right here and this where the iPhone on Wi-Fi and the Blackberry Storm just on a full strength EV-DO network.
So it is almost done on Wi-Fi already and it is still loading on the Storm. So it is done on the iPhone and now it is still going on the Storm. So you can see that you are losing a significant amount of speed without having Wi-Fi. I have been very impressed with Verizon’s EV-DO network. It certainly does not compare to the speed of Wi-Fi.
So guys I hope you enjoyed, real quick browser tests of the Blackberry Storm and the iPhone 3G.
