Hey everybody, Jason here from the McIntec Community. I am bringing you another podcast here at live.McIntec.net and McIntec.net. Tonight we are going to be talking about Windows 7 compatibility issues. Yes, it does have problems with applications and some drivers which is to be expected because right now it’s a Beta but I am going to be telling you some of the problems with some of the programs that people have been experiencing. I was up to until 3:00 am, Eastern Standard Time with ZTecWiz. You can visit his website by going to ZTecwiz.com and we’ve come up with a list of things that are not working in Windows 7 right now as far the Beta Build 7000.
So I am going start off. The gadgets do not work with UAC disabled. Have you noticed your gadgets aren’t working? Well, if they are, check and make sure UAC is on. Now the first thing that I do when I install Windows Vista or Windows 7 was disable UAC and my gadgets never worked ever until I was told that that’s the reason why, such a silly bug but yes. If you have UAC turned on even at the first setting, it will work but if you have UAC turned off your gadgets won’t work at least not on my computer and a few other people that I’ve talked to. The gadgets won’t work with UAC off.
VNC Viewer Enterprise Edition won’t work but the free version works which is kind of odd so if you have VNC Viewer Enterprise, if you are on Windows 7, you are going to have to use the free version, the free viewer because the Enterprise one won’t work.
Some problems with Unsigned drivers well, that is to be expected as well. I think that was an issue in Windows Vista too that if it’s not signed by Microsoft or in Windows 7 you may end up having a lot of issues. Now I use my drivers for my ATI cards because whatever drivers Microsoft want to install was not working and they seem to work. Well, they’re for Windows Vista but mostly the drivers you install in Windows 7. If you install Windows Vista Drivers on Windows 7, they seem to work. It seems to take it fine because it’s almost the same thing but it’s not Vista.
Skype does not work on all systems. What will happen is it will come up and it will log in and then it will just close. But the odd thing is it actually closes properly. You know, here it start up and then you’ll hear the closing sound. It will just sit there whenever, if you open it, if you do it and actually, it will close before your eyes. Now some people are saying it’s working. For me, it’s not working right now even the Beta is not working. So it’s working right. I am going to use it on my laptop because I haven’t upgraded to Windows 7 yet. So that is another problem people are having as far as I heard Microsoft and Skype were working on this problem so when Windows 7 is released it’s going to work. So of course, it’s a Beta.
What else we have here? AIM does not work on all machines. I tried to install AIM on my machine, it would not work. So if you are having the same problem with the AIM not working, even the Beta, then it’s got to be something in Windows 7 because AIM is not working for me.
Okay, Google Notifier. ZTecWiz was saying that when he brings out Google Notifier, he gets four errors right when he starts it up but they are the exact same errors. It the ordinal 345 can not be located in Dynamic Link Library but then it gives a DDL file and it comes up four times. Are you experiencing that? Because if you are in Windows 7, then chances are it is Windows 7. Some of you again, all systems are different. You may not be experiencing the same problems or the same things.
FTP using Windows Explorer does not work. I tried it and it actually crashed the Explorer so I close up Explorer and Explorer reloaded and I tried it again, it would not work. So FTPs are not working but what you can use instead of an FT using the Windows FTP is using Core FTP. It’s free and that is what I use but I want to give this a try because some other people are saying they are having issues with it too.
Then Adobe Acrobat Reader may have some issues with documents. I have not look at it yet but some people are saying they are having trouble with Adobe Reader. Google Chrome does not work in Windows 7 but if you have the Windows 64 bit Edition, Windows 7 64bit, you add something at the end of the exe file in the target. You add dash in, dash process, dash plug-ins after Chrome.exe in target field and then Google Chrome will work fine. I might do a video on that to show you what you can do if you like to use Chrome. So I’m sure they’ll get everything fixed when the final releases.
Some games such as Crysis works. All the games that I have been playing have worked. The biggest one was Crysis. The only problem with Crysis is it when playing full screen, even in the 64 bit mode and 32 bit mode when I go to set it to full screen, it would actually crash the game and I had to reopen it. So I can only play it in window mode. I do not know if it has something to do, maybe if I disable all my other monitors, it might work. It could be something to do with running dual monitor now or it could even still do it. I might give it a try. But as for running with multiple monitors, Crysis won’t work in full screen, at least not on my machine here.
So that are some of the issues that people are experiencing, I’m experiencing and hopefully in Microsoft we’ll get all that figured out because this is the Beta, so we’re testing it. So make sure, if you have a problem or whatever, send feedback, keep it going so Microsoft can get it, so that when they do release the product it will have all bugs worked out. Everything will just be working and then Microsoft will just release one of the best operating systems out ever because the ‘wow’ really starts now.
And if you have any questions, you can e-mail us at questions@mcintec.net. Feel free to leave YouTube comment or what-not. I’d like to see what other programs are not working with Windows 7, the Build 7000 right now. And so, I can maybe do some other videos about it and stuff and you can stop at our website at McEntec.net. We have live streams going at Live.McIntec.net and our chat room that is going all the time and it seems to be a pretty popular thing around the areas of chat room as well as we have ventured of. It’s all in the website McIntec.net. Hope you enjoyed this podcast and we’ll chat at you later.
