The Concise Oxford English Dictionary is a pretty self-explanatory app for the iPhone and iPod Touch. We've all needed one from time to time, some of us more than others. It's a dictionary, a reference tool that allows users to look up close to any word that exists in the English language. With over 240,000 words, phrases, and precise definitions and histories, this version is not to disappoint. Utilizing a simple interface that cuts right to the information and doesn't hold the user back with graphics or meaningless transition pages, Prelude Mobiles Concise Oxford English Dictionary is meant to give the user a quick reference tool for immediate look-up of words.
Perhaps the most exciting feature in this app is the Wikipedia-like clickable words within the definitions that allows for immediate results of new words found in the definition. Users can then look up something they do not understand right in the definition of a different word. There are pronunciations for most words in the dictionary, but they are not spoken and instead written phonetically.
Let's face it, it's a dictionary. But for those of us who need just the thing on their device, this dictionary has one of the largest selections of words. Speed is very important with an app like this and Prelude's version is definitely quick and responsive. It’s priced low compared to many dictionary apps of its kind. For someone who needs a dictionary on their device and wants quality, this app will do great.
