Cone cut drills
Use cones or any type of obstacle to help your cutting skills. In this case, we have got cone spaced at 5-yard increments by 5 yards wide and staggered. When you want to change direction you want to push away from the direction you want to go. This should be a sharp cut. When I come forward to the cone, I want to plant and push away, not step forward and round. This means I have to use my hips to direct my body.
First one, let us start with is just a simple linear run going side to side pushing with the outside put to change direction.
Next, let us go to lateral slide. We will do it forward then we come backward with the motion. So we are going to pivot, rotating the hip forward, coming back we want to work on dropping the hip.
Start here, we push and step, staying on a front part of the foot. Do not let the heels touch the ground.
Now let us do a cone cut crossover run. Remember, the key to crossing over is our hip and knee not our feet. We do not want to reach with the foot when we crossover. It is explosive at the knee and hip.
Start with the cone and crossover explosively in the beginning of the drill. At each cone, you are going to crossover and change direction.
When doing cone cuts like any drill, perfect your technique then add speed. Remember, your speed is dictated by control not controlled by speed.
