Rebecca: Hi I’m Rebecca Britton and welcome to WatchMojo.com and today I got speak with Marie-Jose Gustav and Laurence Petit, two eco friendly designers about their two very different techniques. So can you guys explain to me what eco-friendly furniture is?
Marie-Jose Gustav: Building furniture with recycled materials, such as what I’m doing, cardboard that I collect in the streets to build furniture.
Rebecca: What do you find challenging about creating eco-friendly furniture?
Laurence Petit: My challenge is to transform furniture that nobody wants anymore and then make it beautiful and convince people that they can refresh some furniture that they already have.
Rebecca: So can you walk us through the artistic process of it and how you do start creating your pieces?
Laurence Petit: I go to see the environment of my client, to be sure that they furniture will represent them.
Rebecca: Who would you say, has eco friendly furniture in their homes?
Laurence Petit: Anybody, I mean I have a very different kind of client. I have company too who is starting to use a eco-furniture.
Rebecca: So can you walk us through your process from start to finish?
Marie-Jose Gustav: First I have to collect cardboard, if I want to build objects, it’s very easy to find. But if I want to build furniture it’s much more difficult because I want bigger ones. You have to draw the shapes and then cut the cardboard and build it.
Rebecca: A lot of people have boxes in their apartments because they don’t have furniture but not everyone will think to make a chair out of it. Where did you get the idea?
Marie-Jose Gustav: Mostly because I wanted to experiment, how I can use cardboard and push my techniques, there are different techniques. I try to mix them together, that’s how I build furniture and it’s also that cardboard is very easy to use and you can make different shapes and imagine what you want so it’s very simple to use.
