The sponge is a disposable contraceptive usually made of foam that's infused with spermicide and inserted into the vagina. It prevents pregnancy first by blocking sperm from entering the uterus and then it absorbs and it immobilizes the sperm. Many women love the fact, that it can left in place anywhere from 12-24 hours. The sponge is about 82-91% effective, in preventing pregnancy, but there are a few side effects. The sponge can tear and it can cause yeast infections.
