Hello it’s me again Steven Haze so if watching heritage apples so in the orchard it’s the third of January 2009 and it’s very cold. We just do a little bit of pruning here this tree is an eating apple kids are in dread and this particular variety is growing as a pyramid.
You see it got a pretty straight, reasonably straight center leader but lots of branches is coming out now this are very low okay, there on the ground almost and pyramids are a good way of growing apple trees but you really need to support them. This I’m going to convert this over to an open centered bush.
And today I’m going to use one new silky fox apple contour sour which is just come through the post so I’m just going to achieve it with the first time. Lord, please I’m going to cut the stop with this. Okay, so I’m just going take off the lowest branches and the center branches, so what is now pyramid will very soon be an opened centered bush.
Okay, you see this branches right on the ground this is real problem. Okay, so, okay, through enforce brooks this is a nice branches well it’s a bit crowded. And remember to avoid cutting through the – underneath to tell that last cut it wouldn’t be low.
This two branches are too low that is one first, this one underneath. Okay, these are rather low and turn this here. A little bit of problem down just banging, banging into this branch. So you just need to come around and have to find a better angle.
This is too bad, it’s coming to a less bright facing branch and the same here. Cutting this down through up right, up right facing, cut this out before the top – and we take this out first so this branch is a little bit is in the way stopping me for sawing this one cleanly. So we take that out first, right, so we take I’ll take it out for lower branches there. It’s a little bit crowded in the center and I will just take this one out.
Good, two strokes, two strokes for this sort of straight through three centimeters in two strokes, this saw is cost a lot of money but my wrist cost even more. So do you a little, so that was the pruning we get a little rough right at this. Okay, so I’ve always cleaned up the center of this tree I’ll come back and take a few strokes through the sectors but that essentially converted a not real well grown pyramid tree to a open center I probably more or less from the half through it, well nearly.
