Daniel Delaney: Hey I’m Daniel Delaney and I’m traveling the world tasting the best street food around. Today we’re in the historic Mississippi District of Portland, Oregon and we’re looking for some great Brunch food. We got just the place and we’re going to show it to you today only on the vendor TV. So this is Moxie RX you take this artisan twist on home-style classics, let’s check it out. So we’re here at Nancy at Moxie RX, thank you so much for sitting down with us.
Nancy: Welcome.
Daniel Delaney: The cart is beautiful, it’s just in quarters. Would you please talk to me a little bit about your history where you grow up and how you happen to be at work.
Nancy: I grew in DC and move out December just go about ten years ago.
Daniel Delaney: Was mom cooking at home?
Nancy: My mom was—yeah my mom was a great cook and my grandmother was the real cook. At least we go to the Coast and a little neck clams and she cook like little skin butter on them and like during the butter I think that’s where my love of butter comes from is actually drinking butters. Our mother dear is better with butter.
Daniel Delaney: What about the menu? What’s the illustration for the menu?
Nancy: I’ve always been really attracted to breakfast to brunch food. I really enjoyed baking but not necessarily a real traditional of pastry shops sort of way. I’ve done that in the restaurants but I just like the real casual comfortable breakfast kind of thing so I’ve always been attracted to that and it’s basically what I like to eat for breakfast, a little sweet a little savory not all just one thing again lots of peanut butter.
Daniel Delaney: Well, it looks great what say we try some food and we going to try some food.
So we’ve got a like a lot of food made for us. These are all wheat waffles there’s a masara minase cheese on top and some bananas and there’s usually cinnamon sugar all over and just the faintest beat of syrup which is great for me because I’m not a huge syrup fans so I like it in moderation and this is just seems to be the perfect amount. So there’s shot and we have some cheese on there, banana. For a whole week waffle it’s just super, super light and airy and it’s quite delicious. It is just down home goodness, no pretension, simple ingredients, good bite it doesn’t made a feeling like I have in two fold and I get it I think it’s really tasty.
So we got this also a homemade biscuit with some herb eggs, there’s a slab bacon and cheddar cheese on it see this shot. What can you say it’s just real down to earth simple comfort food just it’s a little bit gray today and there’s nothing like cozy you have to like a fresh biscuit it’s so warm it’s just kind the oven flaky and the egg are overcook, they’re perfectly coated, they’re not greasy and it’s tons of herbs in there and the bacon it’s not cheap it’s like fix slab bacon and like locally produced cheddar cheese. It’s just a great fresh take on really classic ingredients. All food should be like this. This is just as it is now.
Good cheesy bite and so it’s speechless. So we finally have an egg and green salad and it looks just amazing. It’s a fried egg here on top and we have goodness coming out of it. Chives and they have they’re salted and roasted and there’s the egg and some salmon, some smoke salmon. I see some pine nuts in here, there are mushrooms, oven mix greens and all things is coming with the vinaigrette and quite honestly do you too this is maybe the best recipe that I have all in time. This to me the salad is just, it is stellar, it’s just unbelievable. I’m not sharing with you guys this is great it’s mine goodbye, and out of here no.
