Shelley: Hi! I am Shelley from Boston. Is it hot in here or is it just me. I would like to know more about the best way to deal with hot flashes. Dr. Adrian Dobs: Well, Shelley hot flash is something that women who go through menopause, practically all women will have this in some way. And another term people use for this is vasomotor instability. Unfortunately, the only really good thing that works for this is estrogen. If the hot flashes are really disabling and affecting your work, then it is very reasonable to discuss this with your physician and have estrogen recommended for you. Usually, it's given in low doses and it is also extremely important to figure out whether or not you need progesterone along with the estrogen.
