Coping with Sensitive Teeth

Blake: I'm Blake, I'm 25 from Kansas, Missouri. I really have sensitive teeth and I was wondering if there is anything I do to help that.

Dr. Candice Zemnick: Blake, this is a really good question because a lot of people do feel sensitivity, a lot of times it's due to the fact that you don't have the enamel or protective coating on, you might be using your tooth brush a little bit too vigorously, maybe there are problems with restorations in your mouth. What you need to do really is go see your dentist, have to evaluate each one of your teeth. You may need to have fillings replaced, you may need to have crowns placed on, you might have some tooth or gum recession rather that is causing sensitivity because the roots are exposed. So, all these things really do need to be evaluated by your dentist because each one of these things can be addressed, bonding agents, fillings, the sensitizing agents such as tooth pastes, fluoride applications, all these things as well replacement of maybe previously existing fillings might be necessary.
