Georgia Darby: My name is Georgia Darby and I have three children with ADHD and a husband who has ADHD. My children each have the three different types. My oldest child is inattentive and my middle child is impulsive and hyperactive, and my youngest one is impulsive and inattentive. Quickly, when we first realized that they have the diagnosis of ADHD, I didn’t know anything about it. So I panicked, because I thought it was just some horrible disease or something that would make them, just never be able to finish high school or college. And what I came to find out is our three of them were very bright, but they are learned in different ways. So first thing we had to do is find school that were willing to accommodate them and help them learn, in the ways that they learned best.
That’s been years. It has been several years and I have got one in college and one in middle school and one in high school. And they are all doing really well. Thanks to the strategies that they have learned along the way. And now they have also learned compensate for themselves and advocate for themselves under ADHD. Two out of the three of my children take medicine for their ADD diagnosis and remember to giving them medicine.
I did not want to medicate my children, because I have heard all these horror stories of extensor growth they could become addicted to their you know medicine, things like that and these are myths. The advice I give to any body who asks me is you’ve got to educate yourself.
One thing that is very important is free to find a resource in your community. You need to make sure that you are going to place that’s reputable, that’s got phycologists and staff but know how to test your child giving proper tests. You want to make sure the your child is being seen by learning specialist to get the proper how that they need for their academics.
