This video shows exactly what NOT to do in your crawl space. Studies show that a sealed crawl space is much more efficient and healthy than a open one. Also insulating in between your floor joists in a moist crawl space is an inviting breeding ground for mold. A 6 mil polyethylene vapor barrier covered by gravel is not a adequate solution to keep moisture out. The barrier needs to be at least 12 mil thickness, travel partly if not all the way up the foundation wall and around any obstacles, be attached and sealed to the wall, and should not have any material laid over it. Seriously, sharp gravel laid over thin plastic will keep it from getting damaged? This video also doesn't cover the cause of moisture issues. Proper drainage by implementing french drains, a sump pump, and correct grading around your property will insure success the next time your moisture levels rise. Please do your homework before you sink a bunch of money into correcting your crawl space issues.
