Welcome to this week’s edition of Growing Wisdom. We are going to talk today about water features a little bit. Poko decided that he could not hang out with me today so he is here and one of the things about water features, you know I have a pond, a small pond that I put on the property here which I really like, I really enjoy, it has some great plants in it but you might not have room for that. As a matter fact you may live in the city and just want the sound of water and the great thing is it is really easy to do.
So what we have done here is we have taken a water proof container now. This is an old barrel they probably made sauerkraut or pickles in this thing. I found this in an antique store, filled up with water and then went to a garden shop and get this neat little pump which also has this great bamboo fountain into it and just mounted it on top. Now one of things about this is that it continually run you have to check it to be sure that the water level does not go down too far or you will run the pump dry.
Also behind this water feature I actually have my electrical and I do not like the way that looks so what I have done is I just taken some plants that look nice behind the water feature, I moved them behind there and what that does is it hides the electrical. It also gives the water feature something behind it as well so it looks a little bit like a mini pond.
Now, obviously it does not look exactly like my big pond but it is rather nice and you can also change this up. You know we put different plants behind here but you can change this throughout the year and the fall, if you want to put moms behind there that would be great and in the winter I just shot everything down. As a matter fact in the winter I bring this guy inside, now I have the sound of water inside my house all winter long.
Come back often and check out our tips here on growingwisdom.com
