Today, we are going to do a simple project using ‘perler’ beads.
Pick boards gave you basic shapes to work with, just place the beads on the peg. Instead of using this, you are going to use around peg board for today’s project. We have created a Christmas ornament and included the bright-red bottom make festive.
Well at the last few beads now and put a couple of clear once after tops so we can hang the ornament. Now the next step in the process is that we need to melt the beads together, so they do not come apart obviously when we take them from the form.
Normally, you would not put a piece of paper under it to accomplish this task, however today we are going to be using glitter to add in additional process to it because it is a holiday ornament. So go ahead and put a piece of paper underneath the forms, so any glitter that comes through will be cut and you can remove it easily.
Now that we have the glitter on the ornament, we are going to melt the beads together using a hot iron. Place the piece of paper over the top beads and begin to press the beads. After getting them melted, you will take the paper off, remove the ornament from the peg board and you will see there is glitter. Sprinkles that glitter on through a piece of paper because when you turn the ornament over, you can use that glitter on the other side of the ornament.
Now, we need to press the other side of the ornament. Put the paper over it the same way and press until the beads are melted. Avoid the top two beads melting them too much because you want the holes to stay open so you can put the string through it to hang it right.
Now just as review, here are some ornaments, all of these were made using the round form by children except of course for the one that I just made for you here today, but you are limited only to your imagination.
Happy ‘perling!’
