Now this is what I’m going to use to put the crown mold up today. This is the “Dewalt” two and a half inch angle finish metal. The great feature about this is, obviously, first and foremost, is battery power. There are no cords involved. Its shoots galvanized nails, which mean you, can use it on exterior trim also. It mean, the nails will not rust, but it will shoot anywhere from an inch and a half to two and a half inch nails and you can also set the depth of the nails that you, how far you want them to set in with that knob on the side.
We have a little air compressor running, no hose. Now we’re going to install the crown mold, and we’re going to start with this bay window with an outside twenty two degree corner which I explained earlier. You want to make sure you’ve got a good, tight fit. What I’ll do is I’ll, ill keep this piece still, and go ahead and nail this. Now obviously, I’m using this nail gun. If you don’t have a nail gun, the best thing to use, are eight penny finish nails. You take the eight-penny finish nails, directly on the center of the wood, you want to drive it straight in, so we’ll go ahead and put the smaller piece up.
Now that I’ve got my square piece in, well what I want to do is get Marv to help me on this co-piece. Let me show you how to put a co-piece in and what I do is like, I like to start out a little bit, work my way in, that way I can work the joint. Just like that. Now, I’m going down to the other end. Now what I do is, I kind of bow it out because I did cut it a little bit tight. Now get a little bit of gap from the top, there’s a gap on the top, it makes your bad knees to come up. So that looks good. Start out again. Remember always start out, try not to nail your joint initially, cause then you can adjust the wood to make a joint fit-tight.
The molding is in place, and now we just have to do some finishing touches to polish it off. So, where do we start Blake? First, I’ve already cut the cock to, at the end. What you want to do on crown molding this small, you want to cut it at the very end. You want to have the smallest hole you can, and you want to cut it at an angle. And we’re going to start on the top, go ahead and get a nice little bead going. Permeate the pressure. And we’re going to tape the finger. And run it straight down just to give it a smooth finish and push the cock on back in. And then we’re going to get the wood filler, you just want to take a small bit. Push it in the nail hole, take your finger, and smooth it over. And that’s paintable too right? That’s paintable too.
