This is an example of a basic house beats including a bass line. On this feature over here, we are going to show you how to make all the component parts of this rhythm and how to balance it. So let us get going.

Before we start, I have three questions for you. One, have you installed Q bass SX on your computer? Two, is your MIDI controller keyboard connected to your computer? And three, have you installed an audio card? If your answer is yes to all three of these questions, we can get started.
First, we need to launch the Q bass SX program. To do this on a Macintosh, move the mouse down to the doc and click on the Quarter bass SX icon. The PC uses double left click the Q bass icon that you will find on your desktop. When the program is opened, you will be faced with a screen similar to this. Firstly, we need to create a new project folder, to do this, we go to file and select new project. Q bass SX offers you various templates to choose from and on this occasion, we are going to select the template named empty. Press okay and we are off to our hard drive.
It is always a good idea to save your audio date to dedicate it to hard drive. Here, we are in the student’s hard drive, double click on point blank stuff, double click on that first and click on new folder which we are going to name tutorial.
So we just created that and once you have done it, click on choose. Now all the date of your song will be saved to this new folder. Opening up your Q bass empty project, you will see a screen like this. You will now need to set up your audio card within SX. So to do this, we need to go up to devices which is in the list of many options and on the top of the arrangement page. Go into devices, click on device setup and select the ST audio bay. On the top right hand side over here, you can choose the ASIO driver of your audio card, ASIO meaning, audio streaming in and out driver. We are using the in-built audio drive that comes with the Macintosh.
Another thing to address is the audio buffer size. At the moment, on this computer, it is set to 256 samples and we are going to leave it like that. We could change it by clicking here. We are going to more details about buffer sizes later on in the tutorial. One set, click okay. As a test to make sure that the SX is seeing your audio card, go to the transport bar and make sure the click or metro name is switched on. If you press play, you should now be able to hear the metro name clicking away. Once you hear the click that means that Q bass SX is communicating with your audio card.
