Cutting Down on Soda Intake

Roy: My name is Roy, I am from Flint, Michigan. I am 25 years old and like to know more about the health benefits of cutting soda from my diet.

Maureen Kilfoil: Thanks for asking Roy. That's a really important question as Americans we consume a lot of soda, but what you may not realize is that one 12 ounce can of soda contains 10 teaspoons of sugar. So if you drink an average of one to two cans of soda per day that can lead to 15 to 20 pounds per year. That will take you a lot of trips to the gym to work off. Additionally, consuming an excess amount of soda can lead to osteoporosis that is osteoporosis is when your bones thin, it can lead to bone fractures later in life. So what we would ask you to do is decrease the amount of soda that you drink per day and add milk to your diet.
