Cutting Inside Corners on Baseboard Trim by HomeAdditionPlus.com
When installing a baseboard trim, sometimes the inside angles can be more difficult on the other side angles. Hi, I am Mark Donovan from HomeAdditionPlus.com and today, I am going to show you technique for cutting the inside corners of a baseboard trim.
Okay, to make this inside corner cut, we are going to have two pieces of baseboard trim at 90 degrees angle. I am going to visualize taking one section and pushing it through to the other side and then tracing the outline shape of the end of the baseboard trim under the backside of the other board. And to do that, we will just use a small sample of the first scrap of the baseboard trim. We line it up on the backside of the baseboard trim and then we mark it with a pencil, very carefully tracing it out. Now we are going to use is a miter saw to make this cut here.
So to begin this cut, I am going to use a standard miter saw. I am going to cut at least a straight portion with the miter saw. We are going to tilt the blade such that it creates a back cut, meaning that the finish line edge sticks out a little bit further than the backside edge of the baseboard trim. And once we have got up to the top of the line where the curve begins, we will then switch to the coping saw. Now using a coping saw, I am going to cut around the curve of the baseboard trim. In here, you want to be very careful. Now, we will sand the two pieces and we will put them in the other to see if we have a nice 90-degree looking cut.
So now, we will just slowly sand the edges of the pieces that are cut and we will put the two pieces together. You can see we now have a nice 90 degree cut inside joint, all we have to do tuck it up on the wall, and use a little wood filler for any gaps to make sure you have a perfectly tight seal.
