Everybody, this is DJ Ty from agiprodj.com, bringing you one of many and series of video on the brand new DENON DN-X1700 mixer, right here. Things of beautiful mixer, it’s gorgeous. Four channels, lots of effects, midi, built-in audio card, digital ins and outs as well. This thing is gorgeous. But we’re going to concentrate on this video today is the effect section. It’s got a dual effects processor—two effects, you can assign either one to either deck, this effects in here. You can select one, you can select two.
And this is the section and then the visual display that gives the read out of what the effects are and we’re going to go and scroll through them all. There’s a delay, echo, transform, flanger, filter, phaser, reverb, looping, reverse looping, pitch shift and then a beat breaker, and then on top of that, you can use a send and return through either one the effects processors. We’re going to send and return in case you have an external effects processor, you want to session in something or session out to something.
I’m just going to go through it and do a little sample of all the effects just for SNG. So we’ll send it to effects processor number one which is what I’ve here. I’ve got the delay on it. I’ve tapped out my BPM and my track already. And then down here, you have an on and off which engages and disengages the effect. You’ve got a wet/dry fader and there’s visual indication of the wet/dry fader as well. And then a parameter knob which is different settings or different depth control of the effect. And then there is some beat shifting where you can actually cut the beat into a quarter, half, three quarter and then a full beat. So you could go up to a four to one [demonstration]—super fast delay. That was actually a whole eight-count delay so you could do it, or a two-count delay, so you could do a little one or two, you could do a four to one [demonstration]. And that’s it, that’s the delay.
Next one is echo, every left studio echo fades, all tapped out. You cut it and set it to one to one, and use that for a nice transition into another track. And you can get back up here. You can do double long, you have a two count. You can change it, so you could do even a longer one. You could set it to a four to one, hang out. You can actually chop up your echo. I’ll get something a little louder here. So you can tweak with the echo as it’s going out as well, pretty cool.
Transform effect gives you out the illusion that you can move your hand faster than you really can. You turn that wet/dry fader way up and you’ve got extreme cuts on it. One to one [demonstration], you can shift it at mid time. So lots of stuff you can do with it. So that’s the transform.
Effect number four is the flanger, you know everything has got a flanger on it, get it wet/dry off. Parameter knob gives you high and low cut, and you can use these beat buttons again to determine how long your flanger is going to roll from positive one to a negative one, fast flanger [demonstration]. That’s your flanger effect.
Filter [demonstration] it’s so relatively fat, full and high cut, lot of stuff you can do with that.
Phaser is next. It’s almost like a combination of a flanger and a filter but—[demonstration].
Reverb—[demonstration]
We’ve got looping, do a four count, you chop that up [demonstration], lots of stuff you can do there, that’s a loop effect. It’s got a reverse loop [demonstration]—crazy stuff you can do.
This one is very interesting. It’s called the beat breaker. It’s like a beat matching grid and there’s other DJ software our there that’s got this effect and Rick is very fun of it and it was difficult for him to give up Scratch Live. But this beat breaker gives you that unique little chopping of the beats and you can actually in the edit utility and you can setup how these are chopped and I just pound it a couple up. Again, you turn that wet/dry fader up and you’re going to get everything to an extreme. So you can see what the limits are, I mean—[demonstration] and those are different chops. Imagine what you can do with that with the transition or anything in there.
So, that’s the effect section. I’m just showing you one of them. I mean obviously you’ve got two here and you can apply a different effect to two different channel. So as Rick told me and you can hear on the video, we’re at nine minutes and YouTube is going to cut us off here in a few.
