Welcome to the TDMD Daily Tip Podcast. My name is Marcelo Lewin. The digital media dude. Today’s tip is for Mac OS X Leopard in how to find menu items quickly. So let’s get started.
One of the coolest features that I personally enjoy about Today’s tip is for Mac OS X Leopard is the new unified help screen. If you go to help, you will see that all help in every application now has a search box that you can search through. And then it has a variety of other helps. So for example if I click on my desktop, you’ll see I’m in finder now. If I go to help, you’ll see that I have search and I’ve typed in a couple of searches here already but I’ll clear that up and you can see that it’s pretty much the same for any other application that you choose.
Now one cool shortcut to get to the help screen, I’m going to put focus back on my safari browser is if you hit command shift forward slash, which is the key that has a question mark right above it. That will bring up to help immediately.
Now here’s something that’s extremely cool. That if you are looking for a specific menu item and you don’t know exactly where that menu item is. You can type in the menu item here. So for example if type in bookmark, like I spell it, type-in bookmark. You can see that I have a variety of menu items and variety of help topics.
Now here is what’s really interesting. For example let’s say I want to add bookmark to menu which is this one here, if you hover your mouse over it. You will notice that it will immediately show you exactly where that menu item is. For example this menu item is under bookmarks, add bookmark to menu and you’ll have a little bouncing kind of arrow pointing to it. So if I go to show bookmarks. It moves up to the show of bookmarks. Let’s go to import a bookmark which goes to the file, import bookmarks. This is a great way not only to run that menu item, but to find it if you really are looking for it.
Now just to prove that it works in all applications, I’m just going to go to my finder then I’m going to hit command shift forward slash. And I’m going to type-in connect and here is the ‘connect to server.’ When my mouse is over that, it automatically will go to the go menu and point it to connect the server. Now I’m going to bring up pages and now I’m going to hit command shift forward slash, that takes me to the help and I’m looking for font. I can see font, show fonts when I put my mouse over. It automatically takes me to the format font, show fonts.
