Step two of the five-step formula is to control the weapon. So after you have successfully accomplished Step 1 - not getting shot with your body movement and your deflection, you are going to end up having a hold -- because of the deflection you are going to have a hold of the gunman’s arms in some type.
Either grabbing the wrist, grabbing the hand, some combination of wrist hand and/or grabbing the gun, and it's important to understand that you have to use either two hands or one arm and a hand or two arms, okay. This is not one-handed task; it is very, very important you understand that. Some systems purpose that you can control the weapon or they will use a single handed deflection and a grab while they do a technique and I have even seen some cases where people talk about pinning the gun, you know, sandwiched between two hands.
Well, this is not going to work against a dedicated attacker, somebody who is trying to kill you. Okay because you have to keep your mind that they are going to fight back. When you try to grab that gun they are going to pull it back, they are going to fight with you.
So you need to make sure you have a very, very firm grip on this weapon, okay. Two hands, one arm and a hand, okay. There are various configurations depending upon what position, which one of the 18 cargo (ph) points that the disarm started from. So again, securing the weapon Step 2, okay, after you have successfully accomplished Step 1 - not getting shot, Step 2 - you have got to control that weapon and you are going to need to do that with two hands, two arms, latch on arm nice and tight, because he is going to pull that gun back to him and he is going to try to use his other hand and he is going to struggle around, okay. So you need to make sure you have got a firm grip on him.
