Derek: My name is Derek and I'm from San Diego. If I have two to three drinks per day, am I hurting my kidneys long-term?

Lisa Bernstein: You know Derek; a lot of people think that drinking alcohol can actually affect their kidneys because it tends to make you want to go to the rest room a lot more often than usual. However we do know about alcohol is that it actually affects your liver in long-term if you drink excessive amounts of alcohol over a long period time it can cause severe liver damage and even what we call sorosis. So it's very important to try and minimize the amount of alcohol you drink on a daily basis, primarily because of what it can do to your liver.
