Daisy Fuentes on Latin Glamor
Female: Notice someone who always looks great. She broke her barriers becoming MTV’s first Latina VJ and Revons first Latina spokesperson. To say Daisy Fuentes is an overachiever, it’s an understatement. This model turned fashion designer is also an author and an entrepreneur who's been redefining beauty for 20 years. We caught up with Daisy at Siempre Mujer Magazine pinup on Latina beauty at the Tribeca Cinemas in New York City.
Maria: We’re here to celebrate Latina beauty.
Female: Maria Christina Marrero is the editor-in-chief of Siempre Mujer Magazine.
Maria: We’re very much into beauty. We’re kind of like obsess with beauty in a good way. But I think every woman likes beauty. Every woman likes to feel pretty and likes to feel comfortable in their own skin.
Female: An idea TV personality, Daisy Fuentes fully embraces.
Daisy: Well, I think that the Latin woman is not afraid to be glamorous no matter what she's doing, whether she's going to the supermarket or whether she's going to the Gala. She likes to be glamorous. She likes to look good and she doesn’t give up on it as she ages. She adjusts her beauty to her age which I think is very important for all women.
Female: Ursula Carranza Siempre Mujer’s fashion and beauty editor echoes those sentiments and says it started when she was a young girl watching her mom put on makeup, a way of life Daisy is quick to share with other women. Daisy is a successful model, author and entrepreneur who had seen lots of changes for Latina women in the world of beauty.
Daisy: Well, I see a lot more representation now. There are many more spokespeople representing major companies and that’s important.
Female: But Daisy who also wrote the book Unforgettable You reminds us it’s not just what's on the outside.
Daisy: I think it’s extremely important to remember that real true beauty does come from the inside, self-esteem, confidence is very important. It’s great to have some fabulous products that can help us along with that. But you can't forget that it’s corny as it sounds, it really does come from inside.
Female: When it does come down to it, Daisy says beauty and appearance are priority for Latina women.
Daisy: And you will see a Latin woman in her 60s, 70s and 80s applying that lipstick and making sure she doesn’t leave the house without the makeup, without her hair being done or putting on that fragrance and coordinating her outfit. But I think makeup like anything else that has to do with beauty is there to enhance your appearance not change it. And I think that that is far of true beauty is knowing what you haven't how to make the most of it. And with that, you can say that for beauty all across the board. You can say that for plastic surgery. There are some plastic surgery procedures that are great to enhance somebody’s appearance.
Female: And her advice to all women.
Daisy: And to really get to know yourself and know what you like, you know what you don’t like you know what you stand for, what you believe in and really adjust that as you age. I think age appropriate is very important, the way you dress, the way you look, the makeup that you use, the way you behave. I think that all needs to be adjusted slightly as we get older.
Female: She looks great. Daisy’s book Unforgettable You is available now.
