David: I got it from Manny’s I believe in 1970. Whenever I was in New York I’d go see Henry and Manny’s and look at guitars. Must have gone to Manny’s around then and picked up the black strat.
Phil: In over the years, there's been a lot of requests for this instrument. So it’s good that for you to get out and let the people you want to play it, you know. And to make sure that’s really a faithful reproduction of his. David was very happy with everything about it. The pliability, the feel, the shape of the neck, the sound of the pickups, the way the trim works. And very, very good.
Todd: People that are asking me about this guitar seem like forever.
Phil: Again, together, a really faithful reproduction that David will be happy with in terms of the feel and the setup and that sound with all the adjustments close to actually taking your guitar to the custom shop and spend a few days with Todd going over every detail.
Todd: It was utterly just amazing. This overwhelming sense of just history and you know, the past just being surrounded by.
David: We have checked all the pickups. We've been through dozens of different pickups and comparing directly to mine to find a pick up combination that sounds as much like or bit better than mine in some cases. The pickup of this one is actually better than mine. And I might stick one of it than mine. They’ve done a fantastically good job. So to make it as good as I wanted it to be. We worked quite hard. It’s taken a while to get every part of it that rocked.
