Male: Now we are here at the Old Dairy and you maybe asking what possible excuse we got for filming in a pub. Well the reason is, the story is all about dairy, butter, milk, and cheese. Three of the most common food stuffs in the UK of course. The new stats revealed the millions of people who suffer from bloating and stomach upsets do not realize that dairy products could be to blame. So what should we do if we suffer from these kind of symptoms? Well, with me is nutritionist Angela Dalton. Angela what should we do?
Angela: If you get symptoms and you are getting them consistently, then what you should is to keep food diary, you should do that for a couple of weeks. Say, you write absolutely everything that you eat until so some of the symptoms that you might be getting is from stomach symptoms. See if there is a link between the two then that might give you an indication of what the dairy ingredients is a problem for you.
Male: Now with this here we have a quite few dishes. Obviously, we got the cheese and the butter here that are going to cause problems.
Angela: Yes.
Male: But is there anything else we should be looking out for?
Angela: The cheese obviously is diary but also they might find diary propping up in unusual sausage, like the crackers for example, they could have some dairy in there as well. Just use as a processing aide in there. Also this butter, which is obviously diary products and the soup here, often has milk in that to make it creamy. So yes it pop up not just in the obvious foods.
Male: And also a lot of people are going to like butter in their bread that kind of thing, but if they are intolerant to dairy product, what kind of thing they can actually do?
Angela: Well, they need to take advantages of the products out there now, which are increasingly dairy-free products. So I encourage people to go into the supermarkets and find what is on the shelf. You would need to replace milk obviously with some other alternatives such a soya milk or rice milk or oat milk. Find one that you like, experiment.
Spreads again, most of them got some dairy in them so look for an alternative, for example, spread cook pure which is quite good that you could have. So it is just really funny how it works out there and find them some alternatives.
Male: So where can anyone with symptoms actually get anymore information?
