Interviewer: Adolescents always worried they are going to get too many pimples and they hear this term acne. What is acne?
Doctor: Acne is right the passage. It starts with a whiteheads and blackheads, clog the spurs and then they go through inflammatory lesions which are pustules and they are like big cystic. However, it is basically probably your post world, words of problem.
Interviewer: What is the cause?
Doctor: Diet.
Interviewer: You think its diet?
Doctor: Guarantee.
Interviewer: You told it was diet--
Doctor: Let me tell you how it starts. The official studies go back about 30 years, they did caramel versus chocolate and there was no suppose distinction between caramel and chocolates. So this is base the last 35 years. It has been based on caramel versus chocolate.
However, if you go to Northern Alaska, if you go to small islands like the Solomon, it is zero acne.
Interviewer: Really.
Doctor: Yes. So if you go to a place where it is nonwestern diet where they do not have abnormal hormones spikes. So it is not environmental dietary. Now, one of the things in terms of nutritional supplements that has been shown going back 35 years to help acne zinc. So, zinc 25 mg twice a day has an anti-inflammatory effect. And if you have vitamin D and fish oil, that will calm down in terms in inflammatory stuff.
Interviewer: It is like a naked three in things like that.
Doctor: Yes.
Interviewer: But if you are going to use any kind of medication. What kind of medication?
Doctor: O2Cs are going to be the one of three things, over-the-counter products. They cannot buy law. An O2C is an over-the-counter drug. So there are active ingredients going to be benzoyl peroxide, cell folic acid. So those work for some degree.
Interviewer: How does benzoyl peroxide work?
Doctor: Tend acne 0.
Interviewer: So keeps the skin clean.
Doctor: It kills off the bacteria. So what happens is you have overgrowth the bacteria and that is causing the inflammatory change.
Interviewer: If they tried that and it was not successful. They went to you because they try all these things. What would you do differently?
Doctor: We are dealing with the teenager, if they will stick to a diet and nutrition supplements. They make a difference. I do not think I am using antibiotics in anyway the reason is it is the party one. Everyone throws to everyone antibiotics. What is doing is it suppressing it, but soon as you stop them it comes right back.
Now, the question becomes mild acne. I think the O2Cs were okay. I think the prescription stop to works. And if you are going to Rx prescription then it is going to be a combination of anti-inflammatories. Okay, so I go to nutritional supplements, dietary changes that they would stick to it. A topical retinoid i.e. retnie, different Tazorac deterioration. You can use an external antibiotics and there is a problem with that because you are not subjecting that killing off a normal form.
Interviewer: That is a combination to benzoyl peroxide.
Doctor: Benzoyl peroxide was erythromycin, benzoyl peroxide was clindamycin. There is a topical sulfur preparation.
Interviewer: Are there about the same?
Doctor: It depends on the virtual sensitivity?
Interviewer: So you will go back and fort.
Doctor: You expect a combinations. The other thing is a lot of time if the acne is better because you will see it is flat, but there is still red. And the reason for that is it is because a blood vessels have dilated underneath.
Interviewer: Okay, very good.
Doctor: That is not going away. So there is when you guys start thinking depending on how much the psychologically bothers the kid, you are looking for like a chemical pill.
Interviewer: What these terms mean?
Doctor: Chemical pill is you are putting some sort of medical strength weak acted in the face. So you are causing a shading process to open up the clog spurs plus even at the color.
So the issue is most kids will be reasonably clear three months or less. But, if you run your finger basically black is not white. Maybe you have whiteheads left and it showed a red face and the redness is the damage is left now. For my prospective, they are clear. And their prospective nothing happen because they cannot proceed that this is just redness left after.
So if all you do is keep mess, mess they are going to thick off. It does not do anything and that is why proactive as the cells that has.
Interviewer: There are lots of cells.
Doctor: Proactive probably someone 460 million bucks. They got a list of million people on proactive.
Interviewer: That is benzoyl peroxide.
Doctor: Yes. Except here is the issue. The form silicon company already rise and being search. A told them for number years. You have extra amount Rx market and you guys just basically keep rearranging chairs on the titanic and you are dropping up until little tiny pieces. Single garbage, where basically change formation likely.
Interviewer: So what kind of benzoyl peroxide is one?
Doctor: It is a script one to script one containing something.
Interviewer: What makes a prescription benzoyl peroxide.
Doctor: Because there are many lidocaine with it.
Interviewer: But benzoyl peroxide prescription, not prescription you are saying. So the advantage of the prescription is adding the antibiotic. But many times just over-the-counter works well.
Doctor: It can start to work. The problem is that date to date is very hard to see changes in yourself. It is very hard to see.
Interviewer: Sometimes you go in and you clean up some of the polish.
Doctor: Yes. You do that. Now, older women are different issue. Okay. Women, even girls, it is spike in hormones. Okay, so do you have menstrual flare? If you have a jumping hormones?
If you have a jumping hormones, an very good against putting the number of control pills because if you put them in birth control pills like yes, it is official prove it is a preventive for acne. The problems you are not going to let the birth control pills, it takes three months to kick in and you have rest them for months and months and months.
