The infection can travel from the mother to the baby and then the baby can get very sick. So we automatically treat them, so he does not become infected. Or if he does have an infection, it help cure them.

Stephanie Tmrisek: I was listening to his lungs to make sure they were clear and that he is breathing okay, feeling his belly, listening for bowel sounds to make sure they are present, making sure his belly is not hard or full, checking his capillary refill to make sure that his heart is pumping okay and the bladder is returning as normal and checking pulses to make sure they are equal in both extremities. It's the basic of assessment we do in every baby.
