Dealing with Spyware - #4 - Scanning Your System for Spyware and Malware
Hi. This is Mike Callahan, Dr. File Finder and welcome back to our special Butterscotch.com five part series on how to deal with Spyware.
On this segment, we are going to look at Anti-Spyware scanners. You will know that some are stand-alone. They scan simply for Spyware. I've listed some in the show notes. You can also search on Tucals under Spyware.
This one that I use is from Trend Micro. It’s Anti-Virus plus anti-Spyware. I have also listed some of those that are available. One thing that you can see here, it shows you that this computer is protected but the status is good, when it expires, when it was last updated, when it was last scanned. It will tell you to scan now or update now.
One thing you want to be sure of regardless of which product you use is going to your control settings. Make sure that the protection against the viruses and Spywares ON where you have settings. You can go through and check them. If you want to check for the file of any threats in web mail attachments, threats in instant messaging files and there is even some advanced settings.
Now, each program will vary slightly but all of them will have certain similarities. Another thing to check is that scheduled scans are set. For example, this does a Windoows System Folder Scan every Tuesday at 12, a hard disk scan, one day of every month at 12 and a full scan checks all drives 15 days of every month.
So you want to make sure that whatever products you use, your anti-virus, anti-spyware program updates automatically and that it is set to scan at whatever enables you determine.
Remember that this is part of the five part series and be sure to listen to all five parts.
