Bowman here at BWone.com giving you my review the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 Notebook. Does this mini stand taller than among others in the notebook market? Let’s give it a big league review. Okay, let’s go over to—with Inspiron Mini 9 Notebook. First is the AC adaptor just stand it two prong US AC adaptor allows you to plug it in whenever you need to get the laptop a recharge. Next is your recovery CD, you get your driver and utilities, your operating system disc and Microsoft Works 9. Now what you’ll need an external CD-ROM to reinstall the operating if you need to on the netbook, so you can either purchase it from Dell when you buy it or you can buy it at your local electronic shop. And finally a setup guide and warranty support information, so it doesn’t come for a lot of accessories disappointingly does not come with the soft case so I can’t do the worlds famous biscuit test I usually do so hopefully next time Dell will include case by default.
So let’s take a look around the netbook, first thing you’ll see here is not very big at all. It’s about 9 inches wide, a little over 9 inches wide, starts of at about – see on the side from about a little lower an inch on the front so it’s about 1.25-inch on the back. The overall weight is 2.2 pounds, you can see here pretty much pick it with my hand, hold it right up there like that and where we take back at the – take another look here on the left side, you’ll notice you have here lock port here, your charge port here, two USB ports and your multimedia card reader.
On the front, you have here a power light and your charging light, on the right side you have here two audio ports, the USB, your VGA out port and your Ethernet port. And on the back here, you have your battery which is a four cell battery which Dell says you should get about an hour to four hours of battery life. And we look here in the top we get a glossy finish, you have your choice of colors of either black or white and has a Dell logo right in front of it. So now that we took and look around, let’s give it a speed test. To see how fast this start of from boot. Okay, let’s give a boot test and see how fast the netbook boots off.
So you get about 30 seconds or so for a boot until you get to the working desktop so that’s really relatively quickly for something this size it’s enough to worry about waiting for it’s boot off and when your away you can turn it right on and it’s going to instantly, almost instantly come along. For the specs that we have on the particular one that we purchased a job purchase this is a sort of a test or as a trial so ours has a 16 gigabytes all state hard drives so that tends to a lot of the boot speed and it also tends to how – that’s why it’s so quiet, it’s a very quiet device you can’t hear any hard drives spin at all because it’s just a solid state hard drive.
It comes with the new Intel Adam Processor, it’s a 1.6 GHz, and processor comes with five and 12 kilobytes of an L2 cache and a 533 MHz front side bus also we included one gigaframe but I’ve also heard that you can upgrade yourself to 2 each RAM if you want more memory in the unit. By default it comes a wireless G, WiFi internet on it, you can get optional Bluetooth and you can also get an optional web camera on it, you either get a 0.3 mega pixel or 1.3 mega pixel VGA camera on the top.
It comes with a very nice, you can see a very nice glossy 8.9-inch screen and as you can see very, it’s one of the best unit I’ve seen on this netbooks. I’ve seen some of the other ones this has a very, very good screen on it. The resolution is 1024x600 so you can get a nice, crisp screen. Although when you plug it in to a VGA port if you just going to use it to clone the current desktop, whatever external monitor you plug it in, it’s only going to go up to 1024x600 so it’s not going to utilize the entire screen but if you extend the desktop it will then – it will just use the entire screen.
And if you look right here in the bottom, you have here speakers right here and the version we got came with Windows XP, you can also get on boots one of the thing they called mini OS it’s like a little bit of a customized version with their double interface. And you know if you can notice here on the bottom you’ll quickly look at the keyboard here, it’s a very small keyboard, has nice white keys but it’s configured a bit differently and so do your F1 to F10 keys, instead of being here on the top it’s actually here within the home row and you have to hit the function button to get to activate one of these. So which is kind of weird, figure it that they would put it here instead of putting maybe function one but they put the quick access keys here through – at the top here through one through nine and then zero here where at the top. So it’s kind of weak configuration, it’s a nice keyboard, easy to type on, obviously if you have big hands it’s going to be a little bit difficult for you but it’s pretty good.
So for the most proud of kick and round with it and kind of done some traveled with it and kind of had some test with it and so forth, it’s good for you know you’re doing a light blogging, web surfing, typing papers, you’re going to use you know internet like Skype and things like that, things of that nature it’s very good for the light usage and when you want to knock here your full notebook with you, you just go in to a coffee shop, or you just go on to a place that has WiFi and you just want to get an internet and browse.
I would suggest none using this as your main note book is you’ve already have a notebook because this is not a powerful as your regular you know 13 to 15 netbooks going to be so for power usage you might want to stay away from this if you’re going to use it – if you think about using this as your main travel netbook or notebook rather. But stick to using this as sort of a companion device as you can use this like I said when you’re making as quick trips and small trips to a coffee shop or if you’re a technician, you don’t want to bring the full laptop. This is something also good to use as well.
Business users, definitely it’s good for typing papers and Skype and stuff like that but if you’re excel user I kind of show you here and those that are power excel usable also notice here that it doesn’t give you a whole lot of screen really for an excel spreadsheet and anybody uses excel know that this spreadsheets can get really large and it can be a lot of sheets in them so you might want to not or totally rely on this if you’re working on excel a whole lot.
But overall this is a really good device, it’s good for internet usage in light to moderate or so on stocks are very well that you could see other netbooks out there. Only thing I can say is that this is sort of a first generation of these netbook that’s sort of become a pocket thing right now. I see at the second and third generation comes out these are going to get more powerful, it’s going to be more features with them it just going to be overall great devices, so I definitely give this a good thumbs up you could see right there that I suggest purchasing it if you’re looking for something that you just want to travel light with, like I said I wouldn’t use it as a main – as a main notebook this is strictly for internet usage, very, very light.
So this is the review of the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 Netbook and it’s Bowman from BWone.com reminding you to live your tech world in high definition.
