Telly from Lansing, Michigan writes my husband is returning from a year in Iraq. I would like to give our living room a fresh American look to honor his tour of duty. How do I do this without going overboard?

This is a great question, Telly, because very often people take a theme and take it so far that it looks absolutely redonkulous. This is what I recommend, use 1976 our bicentennial year as your inspiration; bring red, white, and blue into your room in a true Americano way. Paint your living room a patriotic navy blue, take a really beautiful old big flag and put it in a shadow box above your sofa. God bless America and pledge allegiance to the flag.
