Diabetes Symptoms

Speaker: Diagnosis or symptoms: If you have been diagnosed with diabetes you may have noticed some of the following symptoms: unexplained fatigue, frequent urination, excessive thirst, unexplained weight loss, blurred vision, irritability, numbness in the feet or hands, erectile dysfunction, cuts that are slow to heal, frequent illness which may include oral thrush or vaginal yeast infections.

You may have described these complaints to your physician or alternatively, you may have been diagnosed incidentally at the time of a routine medical exam. Regardless, diabetes was confirmed when your blood test revealed a fasting blood glucose level of 7 MMOL/L or greater. A random glucose level equal to or greater than 11.1 MMOL/L when associated with diabetic symptoms. An oral glucose tolerance test demonstrating a glucose level equal to or greater than 11.1 MMOL/L two hours after consuming a sweetened drink containing 75 grams of glucose.
