Austin: Hi! My name is Austin, and I am from Rockaway, New Jersey. I am a diabetic and I heard that there are different guidelines for diabetics when it comes to food pyramid. What are they? Jaimie Davis: So if you are diabetic, you should cut down on the type of carbohydrate, instead of consuming refined grain, high sugar carbs, cheese, more whole grains, high fiber carbohydrates and those types of carbohydrates are absorbed more slowly in your system. So it doesn't cause the extreme peaks in your blood sugar as opposed to like a white bread. So if you were to consume 100% whole wheat bread, the fiber in it actually kind of stops your blood sugar from going up so high, and so that's a more even, even rise. So that would be -- what would be recommended for most diabetics.
