Many people know that cholesterol is either good for you or bad, but many do not understand what is cholesterol. Cholesterol is simply a waxy matter that the liver creates which handles a number of duties in our body.
As we consume foods in our daily diet, our liver takes portions of it and turns it into cholesterol which has an important job that is building cell walls producing vitamin D creating bile salts which helps digest that fat we consume.
So why would we worry about consuming too much cholesterol? Essentially because anything we produce in large quantities is bad for us. If we can be aware of just what is cholesterol, then we can learn to watch what we eat on a daily basis.
The bad cholesterol verses the good cholesterol. If we understand which food produce the good cholesterol and the bad cholesterol, the new will be able to monitor our cholesterol level more readily and keep it at a good level for our health. Foods that have the bad cholesterol are items that have animal fats and dairy products. Foods that have good cholesterol are items such as vegetables, fruits and whole grains.
Too much bad cholesterol in our system ca n lead to blocked arteries which is very bad. When our arteries are blocked it prevents our blood from flowing, which is very bad for our health.
The main goal of the good cholesterol is to keep our bodies healthy. It does this by taking the left over cholesterol within our system and carries it to the liver so it can produce bile salts which helps eject it from our body.
What can cause us to get high cholesterol? Many of us who go to the doctor are usually worried about having a high cholesterol level. There are several reasons that we acquire a high cholesterol level and the main reason is our age. As we age our cholesterol level goes up and we are thus more able to get high cholesterol.
There are many explanations as to why we get high cholesterol. Reason one is our parents. One explanation is that we inherit high cholesterol from our parents. If this is the case, then you should be tested to determine if you have inherited this from your parents.
Reason two is physical activity. Another explanation is physical activity. When we exert ourselves with physical activity, this raises the amount of good cholesterol within our body and thus promotes better health.
When we study the cure and causes of having a high cholesterol, we will often find that the people who have a high cholesterol do so by eating the wrong foods. If we eat foods like meat and dairy products, then we will have a higher level of cholesterol within our body. If we try and eat more of foods like good cholesterol vegges, fiber, fruit, beans and fish then we will have a higher amount of good cholesterol within our body which will give us healthier body.
