Anytime you take a picture with a digital camera, I would highly, highly recommend checking that focus before you leave the scene. Meaning, after you take your picture, what you want to do is check the focus of the picture just because it looks like it’s in focus when you’re in the Playback Mode, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the picture is actually in focus.
So, here’s what you do. I’m going to turn my macro more down because I’m very close to my subjects so that I can focus. And I’m going to try and focus here. I was able to lock a focus point and I will go ahead and take my picture.
Now, if you look back, if I go the Playback Mode and review my image, right now everything looks really great but I really don’t know whether the pictures in focus or not. What you want to do is zoom in or magnify the image and you can do this with any camera.
Most camera’s it’s where the zoom is located so in this case my zoom lever is right here and I can move that just as I would zoom in to a scene. I can magnify my image or zoom into the image. Some cameras may have it in the back but most of the time you’ll see a little magnifying glass icon such as this one and that means that you can magnify or zoom into the image. So, I’m going to go ahead and do that.
Now, I want to zoom in all the way. And then I just use my navigation buttons to move around the image. You can see a thumbnail right here of where I’m located in the image. So, I want to move over this way and I can see that I can make out the texture on the plastic of Mr. Potato head so that I know that this is in the focus.
Now, if I accidentally focused on the background, for example, I was not able to find the focus point and I took that picture then I went back to the Playback Mode and I would zoom in. You can see that it’s not in focus. The focus is very soft and I can no longer see the texture so I know this is not sharp but you’ll notice that here when I zoom out it still looks the same. It looks like it’s in focus so both pictures, this one and the last one they both look like they’re in focus when I zoom out all the way.
And the only way to see whether it’s really on focus is to zoom in and really get a close look of what I’ve focused on.
