Defragmenting with Diskeeper 2008
Michael Callahan: Hi! This is Michael Callahan and doctor file finder with your butterscotch.com to trail and de-fragmenting your hard drive using disk keeper 2008. Let's say it's mainly an overview of disk keeper because it has a quite a few features and functions. So let us hit the high points. Now, I've downloaded disk keeper from the executive systems website, installed it and I have it opened here on my desktop. Now the beautiful thing about disk keeper is that once you have it installed, it will automatically defragment your drives. Now, let's get about that as one, you never have to remember to defragment your drives and to because they are defragmented and your drives are always working at optimum performance.
So, just to give you an idea of how it works, well go down here and click on analyze and defragment now, we've got drive C highlighted and click analyze, and this screen comes up and it's basically like a graph of your hard drive. Now all these large sections of blue are high performing files and folders, areas where it's not defragmented. But the areas that are in red are low performing files and folders and those are fragmented. So, we'll close this and we'll click defragment. Now the same graph comes up and if you watch closely as this starts to defragment, these areas of red will disappear and become blue. You can see down here, what disk keeper is doing is moving files on the hard drive and rewriting them so that all the pieces of a file are in contiguous order.
And what that does is, when the files are all in perfect order; it makes your hard drive have an easier time working and gives you better performance. So, this is nearly done and you can see that the majority of red is just about gone and we are 60% through, so I'm going to close this out. So, this is disk keeper 2008. There is a home edition, they also have a professional edition and an edition for enterprise, but for most home users this will be all you need to keep your hard drives defragmented and running smoothly and that's all there is to it.
