Welcome to the Knee Pain Guru, Knee Pain Question Answered. My name is Bill, and we have a question from Christine.
She says, I had open knee surgery on Tuesday which -- well, this was April 30th. The doctor was hoping to go in arthroscoping and just snip a little of the tip, a little of the tear-out and polish what was going on. But when he got in there, there was a lot of yellow fluid and the tear was along the rim. So he repaired it with sutures. I have never been in this much pain, I can't bend it yet. I can't put pressure on it and have iced it and elevated it, elevated for two days. I am a professional distance runner. I need to get back soon as able to. I'm worried with the pain about putting weight on it and messing up the repairs. Any advice would be great.
Well Christine, usually, when the doctors get in there, you're not indicating this was a ligament tear. That makes a huge difference if they went and repaired a ligament in there. I'm just going on the assumption that it's a meniscus tear, which is the cartilage within your knee. So usually, the first several days are the worst after a knee surgery, because your knee is just going, Oh! What just happened?
So elevating and icing it is a huge piece that's going to help, however, what I can suggest is increasing your water intake. If the doctor went in there and there was yellow fluid, that's usually an indication of an infection. That means, there is some sort of kink in the system, your lymphatic system, which is not cleaning out the waste products in your system. So, that's a big piece. So to begin to increase your water intake, it's going to be huge. Adding a little lemon slice to your water is going to help significantly, because that makes water -- actually drinking the water with the lemon in it allows your body to be more alkaline. That's going to be huge in terms of your body being able to recover from the knee injury.
I'm going to suggest something else, and I would like to do research on it first, and that is looking at a homeopathic called Arnica. You can do a Google search on the Internet for Arnica and you'll have a ton of information. That is one of the things that I used after my knee surgery, that helped me tremendously. So, Christine, hopefully that answers your question. If there is anything else that I didn't cover, please send that question to bill@thekneepainguru.com as well as if there is anyone else that has questions out there, please go to the website TheKneePainGuru.com, and I have tons of information as well as the opportunity to get my ebook, 'Stop Your Knee Pain Now'.
So, thank you very much, and I'll be in touch soon. Bye, bye!
