Do megapixels really matter on digital cameras?
So you’re going out to buy a new digital camera, and everybody’s talking about megapixels; 10megapixels, 8 megapixels, 12 megapixels, 20 megapixels, does it really matter? Well the answer is “no”, it doesn’t really matter, there are certain minimums, for example you want a 4x6 picture, the standard size picture, probably 3 megapixels is all you need. An 8x10 probably 4-5 megapixels, if you get much larger pictures you want to build your billboard size, you might want the 7-8-10 megapixels. What really matters in buying digital camera is the quality of lens, how fast the camera is, those are issues that are more important than megapixels, so they’re not totally unimportant but at the end of the day, as long as you have 5 or more megapixels you are probably good for any type of photo you would likely take for this long camera. It’s only if you start to get into the real professional photography where you’re doing multi-layered processing, etcetera, you really have to worry about multiple megapixels. Far more important is the lens; far more important is the speed of the camera, how fast it is, you don’t want that shot to get away from you.
